Gundam AGE-2 Normal

Release 2011. 12
Price ¥700

The AGE-1 Normal's successor, the AGE-2 Normal, has made its appearance in the AG lineup. The design itself has a pretty impressive sense of volume, so the presence it has once built is quite something for the price. Maybe that's why it comes in at ¥700 — ¥100 more than the other AG kits.

Those four big wings look like they're about to spread wide open at any moment... but true to AG grade tradition, everything except the neck and shoulders is completely fixed and won't budge an inch. On the flip side, the wings being locked at a nice wide angle means the left-right symmetry looks absolutely perfect, which I guess you could call a plus. ^^;

The overall color separation is really impressive for the price, so even a straight straight build gives you great colors and solid proportions... but with the AGE-2 Normal, something feels off — the legs seem to be fixed at a narrower angle than they should be. It makes the stance look a bit awkward compared to other kits, and the proportions feel slightly off too. The wings give it great volume, so it's a shame they went with such a narrow leg stance — I really can't figure out why they did that.

The dynamic design makes the AG grade's near-total lack of articulation feel even more frustrating than usual — but then again, that also means it turned out so good that you'd barely even guess it's an AG. If only the legs were spread a little wider it would've looked even better, but aside from that, I'd say this is a pretty solid easy-build Gunpla for a quick, no-fuss assembly. :-)
