<SG Common Notes>
SG (Speed Grade) was a lineup that launched in 2007, with a total of 4 kits released through 2008. The concept was to assemble precisely painted parts at the small 1/200 scale and complete a high-quality-looking Gunpla in a short amount of time.

To achieve this, most of the parts are provided already painted on the runner, and the goal is to reproduce figure-level color accuracy with just simple assembly. Once you actually finish building one, the painted finish does give it more of a figure feel than a plastic model — though structurally it's definitely still a Gunpla that you have to assemble piece by piece.

These pre-painted runners aren't typically handled at the Shizuoka factory, so SG kits were produced at factories in China. Maybe that's why they were offered at a pretty affordable price of under ¥1000 given what's included. They also all come with a stand that has the unit name engraved in intaglio, and when not in use, the support leg tucks away into the underside of the stand — a nice little touch. And despite being small kits, they come with a solid selection of weapons and accessories.

That said, being a lineup that was neither quite a figure nor quite a Gunpla left it in an awkward middle ground, and it never really caught on with the general public. On top of that, the nature of pre-painted kits makes mass production tricky, so the line met its end after just 4 kits.
------------------------

The second kit in the SG series is the Wing Gundam, and it comes in the exact same format as the First Gundam — same bag-style packaging, same manual style, same price.

The honest 90-degree articulation and overly stiff joints are still here, and on top of that the rifle tends to fall off easily and the wing area is loose. The backpack and wing parts also don't hold together well and keep coming apart, so you end up with this weird balance where the limbs are rock-solid stiff but everything else has poor hold. And since it's 1/200 scale, transformation is obviously not possible.

That said, the straight build looks great thanks to the finely painted parts — but the wonky stability balance makes this feel like the weakest kit in the series quality-wise. It's decent value for the price overall, but it's not something I'd recommend unless you're a real Wing Gundam fan. :-)
