The fourth entry in the Star Wars Vehicle Model lineup, this is a combined release featuring the First Order TIE Fighter and Special Forces TIE Fighter from Episode VII - The Force Awakens. Both were previously released in 1/72 scale, and like the earlier kits, these appear to come in at roughly 1/144 scale. Since the molded color is a flat single-color black, a straight build alone looks pretty bare — and the base color is too tricky for panel lining, so some partial painting seems like a must.

I tried painting the gray areas on the solar panels with a Gundam Marker, but probably because the base color is black, getting a clean coat with just a gray marker isn't easy at all. For a proper finish, you'd really want to go with masking tape and a surfacer + spray, or at least a gray surfacer.

That said, once you paint the solar panels and apply the seals, it becomes quite a striking model — and just like the previous kits, the level of detail packed into such a small size makes the build genuinely fun. Either way, this is a kit I'd recommend to anyone looking to enjoy some light painting rather than just a straight build. :-)
