Gundam 30th Anniversary

Special Clear Parts

Release date: March 2010 / Price: ¥3,800

This kit was released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gundam, and it's an MG exterior clear parts version — basically the same contents as the original kit with just one extra set of clear runners added. In other words, it lets you choose between standard armor and clear armor for certain exterior parts, so for the basic kit features please refer to the normal version review. This review only covers the added clear parts.

MG Aile Strike Gundam Review

◆ Coverage and Effect

It follows the typical half-clear format, with one arm, leg, side skirt, and so on made clear. When exterior parts runners are used symmetrically left and right, this kind of half-clear approach becomes pretty easy to pull off. As a bonus, one beam saber and the dagger blade are also clear. Overall, the MG Strike's armor has pretty solid interior molding, so on top of being able to see through to the inner frame, there's also the added fun of checking out the detail on the inside of the armor panels.

◆ Difficulty of Swapping

The Strike Gundam itself is pretty easy when it comes to removing and attaching armor, so swapping the parts is no trouble at all and you can always switch back whenever you want. However, the shoulder clear parts are secured with snap-fit connections, so be careful when disassembling them — applying force in the wrong direction could crack the clear material.

Also worth noting: since the armor panels aren't sided left or right, you can attach the clear armor to whichever side you prefer — left, right, or even mixed. And if you buy two of these kits, you can make all four limbs fully clear with no issues.

◆ Overall Impressions

Overall, this is a really well-done partial clear kit — easy to disassemble and reassemble, and the transparency is excellent. Combined with the see-through effect showing the inner frame and the solid molding on the inside of the armor, I'd say it draws out 100% of what a clear kit can offer.
