| This kit is the MG exterior clear parts version released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gundam. It's essentially the same contents as the original kit, but with one extra clear runner added. In other words, it lets you choose between standard armor and clear armor for certain exterior parts, so for the basic kit features please refer to the normal version review — this review only covers the added clear parts. |
◆ Areas of Application and Effect
Rather than being concentrated in one spot or on one side, the clear parts are scattered across various areas. The head antenna, shoulders, forearms, waist, and thighs have all been made clear. Overall, the transparency is high, the detail is good, and the see-through effect showing the inner frame is pretty decent as well.
◆ Difficulty of Swapping Parts
Swapping the arm and leg parts is easy enough, but replacing the waist armor is a bit of a hassle. You essentially have to disassemble and reassemble the torso, which makes the process a bit tedious. When disassembling the torso, it's recommended to keep a close eye on the positions of the locking pins as you go.
◆ Overall Impressions
The quality and effect of the clear parts themselves are quite impressive, but the problem is that they're spread out too sparsely. Still, the areas that do get the clear treatment look pretty great thanks to the solid inner frame and the finely detailed mold on the inside of the armor. Since this kit already has such a great frame, it's a bit of a shame that the clear parts weren't applied to a wider range of areas... :-)
