| This kit is the MG exterior clear parts version released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Gundam. It's essentially the same contents as the original kit, but with one set of clear runners added. In other words, it lets you choose between standard armor and clear armor for certain exterior parts, so for the basic kit features please refer to the normal version review — this review only covers the added clear parts. |
◆ Areas Applied and Effect
Due to the runner structure used for the clear parts, the clear treatment ends up feeling a bit scattered overall — the forearms, shoulder verniers, backpack mount, propellant tank tips, beam rifle cover, and so on are all spread around somewhat randomly. On the other hand, the legs are fully clear below both knees, and compared to any of the other clear parts, the clarity and transparency are much higher and the detail is sharper — the quality of those parts as clear parts is genuinely excellent.
◆ Difficulty of Swapping
Since the areas are so scattered, swapping parts can be a bit of a hassle. The backpack cover in particular requires you to disassemble pretty much all of the upper body armor to swap it out comfortably, so I honestly wouldn't recommend bothering with that one. The other areas aren't too hard to swap despite being spread around, though the front cover armor on the top of the foot has an unusually tight fit and gave me a bit of trouble. Just be careful when removing it so you don't break anything.
◆ Overall Thoughts
Whether it's down to good mold quality or not, the clarity, transparency, and sharpness of the clear parts are top-notch... but as you can see, they're applied inconsistently all over the place, so I can't really say it makes for a great-looking clear parts kit overall. Personally, I'd say just swapping out the leg parts might be the way to go. :-)
