OLD First Gundam

1/144 Gyan

Release 1981.7
Price ¥300

M'Quve's mobile suit, the Gyan, has been released as a 1/144 kit. It's come out a bit larger than the Zaku or Gouf, which is accurate to the lore. The molded color is a plain light blue that feels a bit cheap and takes away from its presence, but even so, the sculpt does a decent job of capturing the Gyan's distinctive medieval knight vibe. ^^

One interesting thing about the build is that you have to assemble the hip joint section first and then attach it inside the body — a bit of an unusual process. Thanks to the wide-flared skirt, the hip joints have a better left/right range of motion than most other 1/144 kits. That said, the knee joints barely move and the arm joints aren't very flexible, so the poses you can pull off are pretty limited.

One thing worth noting — the shield molding unique to the Gyan is actually quite detailed, which stands in contrast to the overall plain and bland body. And since the shield is lightweight, it doesn't throw off the weight balance like it does on the HGUC or MG, which is a relief ^^;

Anyway, it's got that stiff old-kit proportions feel, and the footing on both feet is a bit iffy so it tends to wobble, but as far as old kits go, it's a pretty average kit. :-) [ Updated at 2016.1.29 ]
