OLD First Gundam

1/100 Z'Gok

Release 1982.6
Price ¥800

This kit is the 1/100 Mass Production Z'Gok, a color variant of the 1/100 Char's Z'Gok. Since it's essentially just a color variant kit, for a detailed look at the kit itself, check out the 1/100 Char's Z'Gok Reviewfor that.

Just like the 1/100 Char's Z'Gok, the spring-loaded claw gimmick still feels pretty clever, and the multi-jointed segments are nicely reproduced — though the articulation leaves something to be desired, which is also the same story. The color separation is pretty well done too, so the color combination holds up surprisingly well even compared to the MG Z'Gok. That said, the molded color leans more olive drab than blue, which does give it a bit of a dated look.

Anyway, the articulation doesn't quite live up to expectations and some joints are a bit loose, which is a shame — but even so, this is still one of those old-kit classics worth recommending for its proportions and sheer presence, which can hold their own even against the MG. Getting a Z'Gok this big and impressive for under ¥1000 is pretty wild — it seems like more than worth it as a painting practice kit too. :-)
