Straight build + wet decals

In December 1990, the 1/100 G-Cannon was released as the first kit in the plastic model lineup for the theatrical anime "Mobile Suit Gundam F91." As the name suggests, it's essentially the successor to the Guncannon — and true to the MS downsizing program, it comes in at a compact ~15cm even in 1/100 scale, just like the F90. Compared to the original Guncannon, the styling is incomparably more refined, and the overall quality is excellent.

Looking at the appearance, system injection combined with well-placed stickers cleanly reproduces most of the design colors, and while the limb articulation is fairly standard at around 90 degrees, the joint strength is solid throughout, making it a very easy kit to handle. The bright teal molded color might be a bit divisive though. Also, all kits in the F91 series come with both stickers and wet decals — the quality is great, they go on well and stay put.

As for extra features, the shoulder machine cannons can be swapped out for cover parts, and the kit uses articulated fingers where the index finger moves separately from the other three. Beyond that, there are no additional weapons included, so the range of poses you can pull off is a bit limited.

All that said, the G-Cannon is one of the top-tier kits in the F91 lineup, and even after 20-plus years it still holds up just fine. If anything, the larger size compared to 1/144 makes that ¥800 price tag feel like a real bargain. As long as you're okay with the somewhat ambiguous molded color, this is a kit I'd recommend without hesitation. :-)
