OLD Gundam F91

1/100 Gundam F91

Release 1991.3
Price ¥1,400

Straight build + waterslide decals

The fifth entry in the F91 series is finally the main character's unit — the 1/100 Gundam F91. Unlike the previous kits that only used partial system injection, this one boasts colorful system insert runners and a really generous parts count. The "F91" lettering on the shoulders is even color-separated via system insert, which gives the whole thing a really premium feel.

The overall build quality is also top of the line for the series, befitting the main character — clean molded colors, solid color separation, a generous weapons and accessories lineup, decent articulation, and stable joint strength. The articulated fingers have a nice firm grip, so no matter what weapon you put in its hand, it holds on tight, which is reassuring.

On top of the generous weapons loadout — beam rifle, beam saber, beam shield, and bazooka — the F91's signature VSBR deploys cleanly as well. Two head options are included simultaneously, a normal type and an open-face type, so you can swap between them as you like. The shoulder cooling fins aren't articulated, but they are removable, and thanks to that they come out nice and large with a real presence.

All in all, this kit definitely gets the main character treatment. Compared to the MG released in 2006 it feels more like an HG, but considering the low price of ¥1400, the value for money feels extremely high.

Either way, this is a kit that still holds up well today, and if you're looking to build a great 1/100 scale kit on a budget, I think you'll have no regrets picking this one up. :-)
