This kit is the MSV 1/144 FA-78-1 Gundam Fullarmor Type, one of the most iconic Gundam variations out there. The base body structure is pretty much the same as the MSV 1/144 Prototype Gundam, but the overall look does a great job of capturing that heavy, tank-like feel unique to the Full Armor Gundam.
Even though the structure is similar, the design is completely different, so the inner calf frame from the Prototype Gundam has been dropped here. Instead, the twin beam rifle that mounts on the right arm can be attached and removed using a fixing pin without any glue — which is actually pretty rare for an old-kit where you'd normally have to slather everything in glue and stick it all together..
The articulation hasn't changed dramatically, but improved joint strength makes this old kit a lot more enjoyable to handle, and the exterior quality is absolutely top-notch even among MSV kits. Personally, it brings back memories of building the Academy version as a kid — I remember being blown away by that massive, tank-like look. I guess that's really what makes building old kits so much fun. :-)
