Straight build + wet decals
When I think of the Zaku Mine Layer, that rear view is the first thing that comes to mind... but I couldn't put it on a stand, so I just took the photo at an angle. ^^;

This is the original MSV kit — the 1/144 Zaku Mine Layer — which was also released as an MG in 2008. The concept is simply a normal Zaku II F-type with a mine layer backpack added, but rather than reusing parts from the 1/144 mass production Zaku, it uses a newly designed MSV-style normal Zaku II as the base body.
A standard backpack and power cable for the normal version are actually included, so you can build it as a plain Zaku II as well. The mine layer pack is large and has great depth to it — it looks like you could slap it straight onto an HGUC Zaku without it looking out of place. One thing to note though: when you attach the mine layer pack, the power cable on the right side of the head has to connect to the backpack, which means the head can no longer rotate.
The newly reinterpreted MSV-style normal Zaku base body shares the same construction and articulation as the other MSV Zakus. Joint strength can be hit or miss, but in this kit's case, everything except the center hip joint is pretty solid. It's also worth noting that the right shoulder shield has a movable section added, giving it a slight range of motion — a nice little touch.
As the original kit of the Zaku Mine Layer — a design many will know from the MG release — the mine layer backpack's sculpt still holds up even today, which makes this a pretty recommendable MSV kit. :-)
