Straight build + stickers & seals
Straight build + stickers & seals
In April 1992, the Silhouette Formula series kicked off as a side-story model kit lineup for Gundam F91. The very first release was the 1/100 Hardygun — an MSV variant of the Heavygun. Being a variation based on the Heavygun, which was already considered quite high quality even among older kits, it delivers an equally impressive level of quality.
First off, as befitting an MSV-type unit, the design is far more complex and refined compared to the original kit. Thanks to solid color separation and a generous number of stickers and seals, the straight build looks great — easily on par with modern kits. That said, the seam lines are quite visible in places, which is unavoidable given the technology of the time, and depending on your taste, the sheer number of stickers and seals might make things look a bit cluttered.
Also worth noting — the Silhouette Formula series uses regular stickers and seals instead of the wet decals found in the F91 series. That makes application a lot easier, but they don't look quite as clean as wet decals.
With excellent articulation, solid joint strength, a striking design, and impressive armaments, this kit holds its own in terms of quality without question. If the style appeals to you, it's absolutely worth recommending even today. :-)
