The 5th kit in the 1/144 V Gundam series is the Zoloat — the second Zanscare Empire mobile suit to get a kit release, following the Tomliat. Just looking at its design, it screams "enemy unit," and it does a pretty decent job of capturing the intended color scheme with just two molded colors: yellow and red.

That said, the molded colors do have a bit of a candy-toy feel to them, especially the red — which is pretty rough. That's probably just a limitation of the technology back in 1993, but at least the color separation is fairly well done, so that helps.

Still, it's worth giving credit for managing to recreate the unique shoulder beam strings and beam shield gimmicks even at 1/144 scale. Overall articulation and joint strength are decent enough too. The one annoying thing is that the front skirt tends to pop off during posing, which gets a little frustrating.

On top of that, a good number of clear parts and a background card are included — same as the previous releases. This time around, a new space-themed background card is used, and it's designed to pair up as a set with the three kits that followed.

The molded colors alone make it look very much like an old-school kit, so unless you're a die-hard V Gundam fan, it's hard to give this one a strong recommendation. :-) [ Updated at 2017.11.3]
