OLD Victory Gundam

1/144 V2 Gundam

Release 1993.9
Price ¥700

Straight build + Stickers

The 9th kit in the 1/144 V Gundam series is the V2 Gundam — the second protagonist Gundam of the series. Befitting its main character status, it features system injection runners just like the V Gundam, giving it excellent color separation. The basic format stays true to the series concept, with the same shared polycap frame, clear parts, and background card all included.

First off, the straight build looks pretty decent, likely thanks to the V-shaped yellow sections being color-separated. That said, the proportions feel a bit stockier compared to the V Gundam. More of an issue, though, is that a lot of parts pop off way too easily — the shoulders, shield, and backpack in particular are really loose and keep falling off. The joint strength is also iffy, making it a pain to hold any pose, and the whole body just feels unstable.

Given the small scale, the transformation gimmick is naturally left out, but it does come with special clear parts you won't find in other kits, which lets you recreate some pretty unique scenes. That said, as mentioned above, the poor part retention makes posing a real headache. On the plus side, a new battle scene background card (No. 1) is included.

All in all, the V2 Gundam feels like a step down from the 1/144 V Gundam in pretty much every way — and despite being the main protagonist, it's honestly not a kit I'd really recommend. :-)
