OLD Gundam W

1/144 Gundam Heavyarms

Release 1995.6
Price ¥500

Straight build + Stickers

The 4th kit in the old Gundam W 1/144 series is the Gundam Heavyarms. It's a mobile suit loaded up with all kinds of firepower, and even at this small scale, the chest and shoulder weapon hatch-opening gimmicks are nicely reproduced.

Arm articulation is decent, but the leg articulation is pretty limited, which restricts posing quite a bit. That said, the joint strength is solid, so pulling off that signature full-fire pose isn't much of a problem. Weapons include the Army Knife on the forearm and a beam Gatling, and the beam Gatling can be mounted on either the left arm or the back. You can also use the detachable secondary grip to hold it with both hands.

Among the old W 1/144 series kits, this one offers relatively solid quality, and if you're a fan of that all-guns-blazing style, it's a fun little kit you can still pick up cheap today. :-)
[ Updated at 2018.2.20 ]

The 1/144 Gundam W series was repackaged and released as the WF series in July 2000. The kit itself is the same as before, but a small character figure was added, bumping the price up by ¥100. The box art and manual were also slightly revised accordingly, and a color guide for painting the figure was added. Since both the regular 1/144 W series and the WF series are still mixed together on the secondhand market, please refer to the WF version review below for details on the figure and included contents.
