OLD Gundam W

1/144 Vayeate

Straight build + Stickers

The 7th kit in the old Gundam W 1/144 series is the Vayeate. It's a mobile suit with a design and color scheme that's similar to the Tallgeese yet distinctly different, and its standout features are the large generator on its back and the beam cannon.

The leg articulation is still a bit frustrating, but the joint strength is solid, giving the kit a nice sense of stability. The generator can open and close, and it's connected to the beam cannon via a cable. The beam cannon mount on the shoulder can rotate downward to be positioned forward, and thanks to this generator–beam cannon gimmick, you can pull off some pretty unique poses.
The face can be swapped between the standard type and the open type, and since it shares runners with its sister unit the Mercurius, one head part ends up as a leftover.

It's a classic old kit with its own personality and solid quality — definitely a nice little nostalgia trip for Wing Gundam fans. :-)
[ Updated at 2018.2.23 ]

The 1/144 W Gundam series was repackaged and released as the WF series in July 2000. The kit itself is the same as before, but a small character figure was added, bumping the price up by ¥100. The box art and manual were also slightly revised, and a color guide for painting the figure was added. Since both the standard 1/144 W series and the WF series are still mixed together on the secondhand market, be sure to check the WF version review below for details on the figure and what's included.
