OLD Gundam W

1/144 Altron Gundam

Release 1995.12
Price ¥700

Straight build + Stickers

The 11th kit in the old 1/144 Gundam W series is the Altron Gundam. Since it's based on a modified Shenlong Gundam in the lore, two of the runners are reused from the 1/144 Shenlong Gundam. The Altron Gundam is designed so that both arms can be fully extended to recreate the Dragon Hang.

The articulation is a bit limited, but joint strength is decent. The Dragon Hang deployment gimmick on both arms is especially sturdy, so it holds poses really well. Combine that with the movable beam cannons on the back, and you can pull off some pretty unique and impressive poses.

For weapons, a beam trident is included — it comes in two forms, standard and folded, and the folded version can even be stored alongside the wings.

The real appeal of this kit is that it comes with complex gimmicks you won't find on other kits, all backed up by solid pose-holding ability. Since it hasn't been released as an HGAC, it's definitely one of the old kits worth picking up. :-)
[ Updated at 2018.2.28 ]

The 1/144 W Gundam series was repackaged and released as the WF series in July 2000. The kit itself is the same as before, but a small character figure was added, bumping the price up by ¥100. The box art and manual were also slightly revised, and a color guide for painting the figure was added. Since both the regular 1/144 W series and the WF series are still mixed together on the secondhand market, please refer to the WF version review below for details on the figure and included contents.
