1/144 Gundam Deathscythe Hell - WF Repackage Version
The 12th kit in the old Gundam W 1/144 series is Gundam Deathscythe Hell — it's essentially the original Deathscythe with the addition of a cloak-type equipment called the Active Cloak and updated weapons.
Because of that, the basic body is the same as the original 1/144 Gundam Deathscythe, so it still shows the same somewhat awkward articulation and joint strength. On the plus side, the Active Cloak can be deployed in 6 directions, which allows for some unique poses, and the beam scythe has been upgraded to a twin form, giving it a stronger overall impression.
That said, the joint holding the rear Active Cloak in place is a bit loose, so it's hard to keep it fully spread out horizontally — a slightly raised pose seems to work best.
It's a kit that wins you over with its uniqueness rather than build quality, and since there's no HGAC version, it's still a pretty meaningful old-school kit for Wing Gundam fans. :-)
[ Updated at 2018.3.1 ]
The 1/144 W Gundam series was repackaged and released as the WF series in July 2000. The kit itself is the same as before, but a small character figure was added, bumping the price up by ¥100. The box art and manual were also slightly revised, and a color guide for painting the figure was included. Since both the regular 1/144 W series and the WF series are still mixed together in the secondhand market, please refer to the WF version review below for details on the figure and included contents.
