OLD Z Gundam

1/2200 Argama

Release 1985.10
Price ¥300

Straight build + waterslide decals

This is the old-release Z Gundam 1/2200 Argama, and it's the only ship kit released in the series. The First Gundam old-release line had the White Base at 1/2400, but this one came out at an oddly in-between 1/2200 — probably trying to match the 1/220 scale, maybe?

The whole thing is molded in a single white color, so the silhouette looks pretty washed out. Even in the review photos it's hard to make out the details — it just looks pale and flat, and it's the same in person.^^;; This isn't really a kit you'd want to build as a straight straight build without painting. That said, even though it's small, the detail isn't bad at all, so painting it should be quite rewarding.

Feature-wise, the bridge retraction gimmick is reproduced, and extra parts are included to extend the life modules on both sides. There's not much else going on, but the fins at the back do move slightly up and down. There's also a 1/100 Bright Noa figure included as a bonus — it looks great displayed alongside the figures from the Z Gundam 1/100 series.

An EX Model Argama did come out in 2004, but it's nearly ten times the price and not easy to track down. Either way, this kit holds its own significance as a plastic model of the Argama, the carrier ship from Z Gundam — and it's a cute little kit that's well worth building if you're up for painting it. :-)
