--- SD Sangokuden Gunpla Common Notes -----------------
The SD Sangokuden lineup was released between 2007 and 2010, and all kits share a standardized format with consistent characteristics. The head and waist rotate as a baseline, and the arms and legs use ball joints, giving them more flexible articulation compared to older SD kits. The ball joints do tend to pop off during posing, but overall joint strength is pretty decent.
Each kit has a stamp on the bottom of the feet with the character's name engraved in kanji, and slide molds are used on the arms and certain parts for a cleaner finish. Removing the outer armor to get a light armor type is similar to earlier kits, and depending on the kit, some pretty large weapons are included too. System injection runners and color separation across 4–5 or more colors are also applied, so even with a small number of seals, the straight build looks great right out of the box. Overall it's a series that delivers a consistently solid level of quality, and it's safe to say it was a big hit that really helped bring SD kits to a wider audience.
------------------------------------------------------
This is the 12th kit in the Sangokuden series — the SD Chou-un Gundam / Hieisei. Chou-un Gundam is based on the V2 Gundam, and it comes with his trusty steed Hieisei as well, making for a pretty generous package.
Chou-un Gundam's weapons include San and Fuu, which can be combined into the Musoukyoku-Ram. On top of that, the Dragon of Aura that mounts on his back can be attached to it as well. There's also an extra open left hand included, plus an additional eye seal with a different pupil design.
Hieisei is efficiently built with a small number of parts, and the neck and knee joints are articulated so you can get some decent poses out of it. You can even attach a lead wire rein to its head, so Chou-un Gundam can ride it while holding the reins. With Chou-un Gundam mounted on Hieisei, you can pull off some pretty dynamic poses.
It's a bit smaller compared to the similarly structured Ryofu Gundam + Sekitoba set, but thanks to Hieisei, this kit actually makes for a more impressive display piece. :-)
