--- SD Sangokuden Plastic Model Common Overview -----------------
SD Sangokuden is a lineup released between 2007 and 2010, and all the kits share a consistent, standardized format. The head and waist rotate, while the arms and legs use ball joints, giving them noticeably more flexible articulation than older SD kits. The ball joints do have a tendency to pop out during posing, but overall joint strength is pretty decent.
Each kit has a stamp on the bottom of the feet with the character's name engraved in Chinese characters, and slide molds are used on the arms and certain other parts for a cleaner finish. Removing the outer armor to get a light-armor look is similar to previous entries in the line, and depending on the kit, some pretty large weapons are included as well. System injection runners and color separation across four to five or more colors are also applied, so even with a minimal number of seals, the straight build looks great right out of the box. All in all, it's a series that consistently delivers solid quality, and you could definitely call it a hit that did a lot to bring SD kits to a wider audience.
------------------------------------------------------
This kit is the 13th release in the Sangokuden series — the SD Ryomou Dijeh / Kannei Kämpfer Todoroki Kyoushuu Suigun — and just from the name alone you can tell it's a set that packs in a whole bunch of different units.
As the name suggests, you get Ryomou Dijeh and Kannei Kämpfer, based on the Dijeh and Kämpfer respectively, along with the Todoroki Kyoushuu Suigun on top of that. The Todoroki Kyoushuu Suigun includes three little naval grunts — Hygogg, Z'Gok E, and Zaku Kai — plus combat boat blocks A and B that can be combined in all sorts of different ways.
Ryomou Dijeh does a great job capturing the Dijeh's design and color scheme, and comes with two weapons called the Hekizanbu. Kannei Kämpfer likewise stays faithful to the Kämpfer's design, and has a fun gimmick where you combine the shoulder armor with a blade called the Netsukouya to form a shark called the Souretsukou. Both are solid kits that stick faithfully to the SD Sangokuden format and deliver reliable quality.
The three little naval grunts — Hygogg, Z'Gok E, and Zaku Kai — stay very true to their original designs, and they're adorably tiny, coming in at well under half the size of a standard SD Sangokuden kit. Small as they are, they've got decent detail and silhouettes, though the seals do look a bit out of place on them.
Combat boat blocks A and B — similar to the Tenkaikou that came with the SD Ryofu Gundam — allow for all kinds of different formations, and each one can carry an SD Gundam on its own. By breaking them apart and recombining them, you can use them in four different configurations: frontline, warship, assault, and frontline base. Throw the naval grunts into the mix in various positions and you can put together all sorts of fun little scenes.
So for ¥1800, you're getting two SD Gundams, three little grunt units, and accessories that can be used in six different ways including blocks A and B individually — it's a seriously loaded kit. This might just be the ultimate value-for-money pick in the entire SD Sangokuden lineup. :-)
