--- SD Sangokuden Plastic Model Common Notes -----------------
The SD Sangokuden is a lineup released between 2007 and 2010, and all kits share a standardized format with consistent characteristics. The head and waist rotate as a baseline, and the arms and legs use ball joints, giving them more flexible articulation compared to older SD kits. The ball joints do tend to pop off during posing, but overall joint strength is pretty decent.
Each kit has a stamp on the bottom of the feet with the character's name engraved in Chinese characters, and slide molds are applied to the arms and certain parts for a cleaner finish. Removing the outer armor to achieve a light armor type is similar to previous entries in the line, and depending on the kit, some fairly large weapons are included as well. System injection runners and color separation across four to five or more colors are also used, so even with a small number of seals, the straight build looks great right out of the box. All in all, this is a series that delivers a consistently solid level of quality, and it's safe to say it was a hit that did a lot to bring SD kits to a wider audience.
------------------------------------------------------
This kit is the 14th release in the Sangokuden series — the SD Chouryou Gelgoog — and as the name suggests, it's based on the Gelgoog. In terms of color, it follows the blue of Gato's custom unit, and the Gelgoog's distinctive head, torso, and leg designs all come through nicely.
The included weapons are the Houkyuutou and the Ryuushintou. Attaching the Houkyuutou to the front of the Ryuushintou and adding the shoulder structure lets you form the Houryuu Soujintou, and combining the two with a joint part gives you the Houryuu Soujintou - Ryousoukken form, so there's quite a variety of weapon combinations to play around with. An additional open right hand is also included, and the cloak called Houou Tenbu can be folded to use as a shield (Zensun form).
It's a kit with solid, no-fuss quality and a nice variety of weapon configurations — if you're a Gelgoog fan in particular, you'll definitely enjoy this one. :-)
