--- SD Sangokuden General Notes -----------------
The SD Sangokuden lineup was released between 2007 and 2009, and all the kits share a standardized format with consistent characteristics. The head and waist rotate, and the arms and legs use ball joints, giving them more flexible articulation than earlier SD kits. The ball joints do have a tendency to pop out during posing, but overall joint strength is pretty decent.
Each kit has a stamp on the bottom of its feet with the Three Kingdoms character's name carved in kanji, and slide molds are used on the arms and some other parts for a cleaner finish. Removing the outer armor to get a light-armor look is similar to earlier releases, and depending on the kit, some fairly large weapons are included as well. System injection runners and color separation across four to five or more colors are also applied, so even with a small number of seals, the straight build looks great right out of the box. All in all, it's a series that delivers a consistently solid level of quality, and you could definitely call it a hit that did a lot to bring SD kits to a wider audience.
------------------------------------------------------
This kit is the 28th release in the Sangokuden series — the SD Asura King Moukaku Gundam Shukuyuu Gundam Kyoshinzou Set. True to its lengthy name, it includes two SD Gundams plus the Kongou Yaga needed to form the Kyoshinzou.
First up, you get Moukaku Gundam based on G Gundam, and Shukuyuu Gundam based on Nobel Gundam — and in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Meng Huo and Zhurong are actually a married couple. Moukaku Gundam comes with two additional open hands, while Shukuyuu Gundam features a face-rotation gimmick and two Yasha Gekken blades that can be combined into the Nassatsu Hisharin. There's also the elephant-shaped Kongou Yaga for the Kyoshinzou, and you can even pose both figures riding on it.
The Kongou Yaga can be reconfigured through parts reassembly into the Kongou Sensha, and then transformed again into robot mode with Moukaku Gundam boarding it to form the Kongou Asura Kai. The Kongou Asura Kai comes with two alternate hand types and two clear effect parts, so you've got plenty of options for different poses.
Thanks to the clean visuals and the fairly solid combination gimmicks, this kit delivers a really impressive level of quality. The contents are generous, so ¥2000 is a little on the pricey side, but it's definitely a great kit worth recommending. :-)
