Sangokuden Gaiden Buyuu Gekitouroku is a side story to SD Sangokuden, featuring 12 characters who don't appear in the main series — each one getting their own episode as the protagonist. A total of 12 plastic model kits were released, and all of them are variation kits based on existing kits with one or two new runners added. Most use kits from the '90s through 2003 as their base, so compared to the SD Sangokuden kits, they tend to be smaller and feel a bit lower in quality. The biggest standout feature of this series is that each character has their own unique finishing move.

This kit is the 6th release in the Sangokuden Gaiden Buyuu Gekitouroku series — SD Batai Gundam — and is based on the SD Blue Destiny Unit 1 released in 2001. Like its predecessor Teihō Gundam, it's a kit based on an original SD Gundam, with no major changes to the molded colors; the main additions are just the helmet, armor, and weapons.

Combining two Golden Twin Blades onto the new Golden Steel Hammer creates the Twin-Blade Golden Hammer, and the kit comes with a finishing move called "Golden Dapaejin" where you slam it into the ground. On top of that, two additional eye seal variations are included. And as if the already stiff old-kit-style articulation wasn't limiting enough, the added chest armor now prevents the waist from rotating at all.

All that said, it's a relatively half-hearted variation — small in size and feeling a bit out of place as a warrior-type Gundam. Still, it's got a strangely better look to it than the flat SD Teihō Gundam, so it's actually a fun little build in its own way. :-)
