--- SD Sangokuden plastic model common notes -----------------
The SD Sangokuden lineup was released between 2007 and 2009, and all kits share a standardized format with consistent characteristics. The head and waist rotate, and the arms and legs use ball joints, giving them more flexible articulation compared to older SD kits. The ball joints do tend to pop off during posing, but overall joint strength is pretty decent.
Each kit has a stamp on the bottom of the feet with the character's name carved in Chinese characters, and slide molds are used on the arms and certain parts for a cleaner finish. Removing the outer armor to reveal a light armor type is similar to previous entries in the series, and depending on the kit, some fairly large weapons are included as well. System injection runners and color separation across four to five or more colors are also applied, so even with a small number of seals, the straight build looks great right out of the box. Overall, this is a series that consistently delivers solid quality, and it's safe to say it was a hit that did a lot to bring SD kits to a wider audience.
------------------------------------------------------
This is the 32nd kit in the Sangokuden series — the SD Sonsaku Physalis Gundam — and just as the name suggests, it's based on the Gundam GP02 Physalis. The large shoulder verniers are faithfully recreated, doing a great job of capturing that chunky, stocky feel of the GP02.
It comes with the Kyoshugekigokon and Hoteido as weapons, and you can also detach the shoulder verniers to use them as a weapon called the Sokosenkon. You can also reassemble the parts into the Sonsaku Assault Form, which mimics the GP02's iconic atomic bazooka firing pose.
The molded colors and color combination can feel a bit plain compared to some other kits, but the big selling points here are how well it captures the feel of the original mobile suit and the special gimmicks included. Personally, I do wish the large shield — one of the GP02's defining features — had been included. That said, while it's a fairly average kit overall, if you're a Sangokuden fan, the Sonsaku name alone makes it worth picking up. :-)
