The Gundam SEED Destiny 1/144 No Grade series followed on from the original SEED 1/144 line, with a total of 14 kits released between 2004 and 2005, priced in the ¥300–¥600 range as entry-level Gunpla. The basic construction is similar to the SEED 1/144 kits, though you can feel a step up in detail, and they use an evolved dumbbell-shaped ball-joint polycap. Each joint moves on both ends, so articulation has improved — but since the elbows and knees are still fixed, the range of poses you can pull off remains limited.
That said, the proportions are solid and on par with HG, and while color separation is limited, the molded colors look pretty decent. Each kit also recreates its own transformation gimmick and key features. This is the 11th kit in the series — the 1/144 Blast Impulse Gundam. The Force and Sword versions got HG releases, but this is the only kit available for the Blast version, which gives it some collector value. The Blast unit does have some articulation, but the arms are fixed in place, so pulling off a convincing pose is pretty tough.
Setting aside build quality, the real significance of this kit is simply that it's the only Blast Impulse Gundam plastic model ever released — and for SEED Destiny fans, that alone makes it worth picking up. :-)
