1/100

0 Raiser

Kit Review

From Gundam 00, the 00 Gundam's power-up support parts — the 0 Raiser — has been released first in 1/100 scale. It's a pretty unique item compared to the regular MS kits in the lineup, and it's been released separately on top of the combined set that includes both the 00 Gundam and 0 Raiser together..

It kind of reminds me of the Sky Grasper from the SEED era, but unlike the Sky Grasper which was basically a delivery guy hauling weapons around, the 0 Raiser proudly combines with the Gundam to power it up. In the show, it's the setting where the loser Saji Crossroad accidentally ends up becoming its pilot.

The overall color separation is clean and well done as you'd expect from a 1/100, but the detail level is pretty average — typical of a No Grade kit. The cockpit detail is almost shockingly simple, but I suspect it's intentional underdelivering to leave room for a future MG release.

The small wings, tail fins, and combination mechanism all move as per the design specs, and it combines with the 00 Gundam without any issues. That said, ¥1600 feels a bit steep for what you get — especially since there's no stand included despite this being a aircraft kit. Something around ¥1200 would've felt more reasonable.

Anyway, the fact that it was released separately and not just bundled with the 00 Gundam does show some consideration for those who already bought the 1/100 00 Gundam earlier. :-)
