Seravee Gundam

Kit Review

Seravee Gundam has finally been released as the last of the four OO Season 2 Celestial Being Gundam 1/100 kits. Since this kit includes the Seraphim on its back in transformable form, you could really call it a bundle pack with two Gundams inside. Back in Season 1, Gundam Virtue came with Nadleeh reproduced inside, but since Virtue and Nadleeh were more of a transformation/reveal concept, it felt a bit of a stretch to say there were two kits in one. With Seravee Gundam, though, you genuinely get two distinct Gundams. ^^

The overall characteristics follow the same concept as the other OO Season 2 1/100 kits — cleaner panel lines and tidier proportions compared to Season 1, with some updated polycaps used in places to reinforce joint strength. Gundam Virtue from Season 1 had pretty shaky joints, but Seravee, despite being just as bulky as Virtue, shows noticeably stronger and more stable joint strength across the board. Thanks to that, it holds any pose steadily and stays put nicely.

The Seraphim Gundam, which transforms and attaches to Seravee's back as a backpack, has somewhat unbalanced proportions overall, but it does capture the look of the original design well. It's a little disappointing that — just like the HG — you still have to remove the head and hands and swap out the knee parts for the transformation, but thanks to cutting some corners on the gimmick, the fit after transformation is reasonably solid. The GN Cannons on Seravee Gundam's knees, which weren't articulated on the HG, are nicely reproduced here, and separate hands for gripping beam sabers from the GN Cannons are also included. As a result, you can pull off quite a variety of action poses despite how it looks.

Overall, it does a solid job of capturing all the characteristics of the original design, and the sturdy joints despite the large size is something I really want to give extra credit for. With so many parts and such a large volume, it runs ¥3,600 — MG territory — even though it's a No Grade, but when you remember that Gundam Virtue was ¥4,000, it doesn't feel all that expensive. And being able to build two independent Gundams somehow makes the whole thing feel doubly rewarding..

Anyway, the OO Season 2 1/100 Gundams are absolutely the best bang for your buck! (They're nothing like Season 1 — nothing like them at all..)
