This is the third HG variation of the Flag, one of the most prominent mass-production units in Gundam 00 alongside the Tieren. The Over Flag appears in the latter half of the show as an enhanced version of the Flag — but the unit itself is 100% identical to the previously released Union Flag Custom. Nothing has changed; it just comes with the New type Linear Rifle and some added stickers. That bumped the price up ¥200... which feels like ¥100 too many if you ask me; Though I suppose they probably had to cut a new mold, so there's the extra tooling cost to account for..

Since the base body is completely identical to the Flag Custom, this is a pretty low-freshness item. I thought the base black molded color was exactly the same too... but looking closely, it's actually a touch brighter. Not sure if that's intentional or just a subtle difference in the plastic material, but the knees, feet, and pinwheel shield have been changed to gray, so it does look at least somewhat different color-wise.

The New type Linear Rifle added with the Over Flag has decent enough detail — it's more of a "hey, there's a new weapon" kind of feeling. The stickers included alongside it add a nice little accent though.

One weird thing though... the HG Flag series uses a polycap-less design, and the joints on the regular Union Flag were stiff enough. But somewhere along the way with the Flag Custom, things felt a little looser for some reason... and with the Over Flag, the leg joints have gotten noticeably floppy;; It's bad enough that I'd hesitate to just chalk it up to bad luck with my copy — I'm starting to wonder if there was some tolerance adjustment or mold wear going on. It's loose enough that even standing it up straight is a struggle..

Anyway, in conclusion, this is probably the least distinctive variation in the 00 HG lineup, but compared to Graham's Flag Custom, it does come with extra weapons and stickers, making it a slightly more complete package — so I'd say it has a modest edge over the Flag Custom.

It does feel a little half-hearted in some ways, but since it's a unit that played a fairly important role in the show, there's something to be said for the fact that it got a kit release at all. That kind of kit, I guess. ^_^;
