HG GNX-509T

GN-X III A-Laws type

Kit Review

The second HG kit from Season 2 of 00 is the GN-X III, A-Laws type. It's an upgraded version of the original GN-X used by the A-Laws — a sort of mercenary force working under the Earth Sphere Federation — and the color scheme has been changed to red, almost like it's three times faster. Unlike the original GN-X, the X-shaped structures on the top and bottom of the body are smaller, giving it a more compact look. On top of that, it comes with the GN Lance, a pretty cool weapon that works as both a sword and a gun. It's the suit that showed up right from the start of Season 2 and went toe-to-toe with Exia (which, in-story, is an outdated Gundam by that point)..

Since the basic body structure is the same as the GN-X, for a more detailed breakdown of the construction, please check out the HG GN-X review— most of the structural features are identical, as there aren't many changes from the GN-X. The joints are stiff, which makes posing easy, but key joints like the hips have a narrower range of motion than you'd expect, so really dynamic poses are a bit of a stretch. The articulation isn't great, but the overall silhouette is pretty dynamic in its own right, the joints are solid, and it holds poses well enough.

The long barrel from the original GN-X has been dropped in favor of the sleek and impressive GN Lance, and despite the increase in runner and parts volume, the price is the same as the original GN-X. That's a relief. ^^;

The biggest gripe with this kit is the heavy reliance on seals. As you can see in the photos above, major areas like the shoulder torso, knees, thighs, and vernier covers all require seals, which creates a bit of an inconsistent look. If you look closely, the color separation could've easily been handled through runner splits — it really feels like they didn't put much thought into it since it's just a variation kit.

There's nothing that really stands out about it, but it's a decent enough kit that delivers solid, no-frills quality.
