HG GN-009

Seravee Gundam

Kit Review

Seravee Gundam — aka the "chubby Gundam," Tieria's successor to Gundam Virtue — has been released as an HG kit. Compared to Season 1's Virtue, it's overall a bit less chunky and the detail has been simplified, so at first I thought it looked a little plain. But once I actually built the kit, I have to say — this thing's got something going for it. ^^

For starters, the boldly simplified detail gives it a clean, no-nonsense look. Unlike Virtue, it's armed with four GN Cannons on the shoulders and knees, which makes for a wide variety of dynamic action poses. The most unique feature is definitely the Gundam face on its back — and at the time this kit was released, the secret behind that face still hadn't been fully revealed in the show. The face-shaped backpack has what appear to be limb-like structures above and below it, suggesting that — much like how Nadleeh emerged from Virtue — something separates out as a distinct MS. Either way, that Gurren Lagann Ganmen-style back is a seriously fascinating touch.

Tieria's signature oversized weapon, the GN Bazooka, has been upgraded to the GN Bazooka II. This time around, the GN Bazooka II can be split into two separate weapons called Buster Cannons. Each Buster Cannon can also be connected to the GN Cannons mounted on the shoulders — it's a small but pretty impressive gimmick.

In the show, the GN Cannon units on the knees extend and move like arms, but that arm gimmick isn't reproduced in the HG Seravee Gundam. It'll probably show up in the 1/100, but at least the knee GN Cannons can still be deployed here.

Despite the chunky build, the new polycaps are surprisingly sturdy, and joint strength is absolutely no issue. The large GN Bazooka II / Buster Cannons hold in place nicely with no trouble holding them in hand, and the arm and leg joints fold up pretty well for a kit this bulky. In a word — a clean, satisfying build with nothing to complain about!

00 Season 2 kits are generally an upgrade over Season 1, and the HG line is no exception. The HG Seravee Gundam feels noticeably more "refined" overall compared to its predecessor, the Arios. Right off the bat, the cleaner proportions and excellent joints really stand out compared to the HG Arios.

This is a great item I'd highly recommend to anyone looking for a clean, satisfying build experience.
It's a different feel from the HG 00 and the HG Cherudim — come experience that chunky-kit charm for yourself... ^^
