HG GN-003

Gundam Virtue : Trans-Am mode

Kit Review

The Gundam Virtue wraps up the HG Trans-Am variation set of 4. All the Trans-Am mode kits share the same characteristics — no price increase, yet the change in molded material alone delivers a noticeably high-quality result. Since the basic kit structure is the same as the standard release, please also check out the standard HG Gundam Virtue reviewfor reference.

Just like the other Trans-Am mode kits, the change in molded material makes the joint strength a bit stiffer, which makes posing a whole lot easier. The standard version's joints weren't exactly loose, but the chunky body did make things feel a little unstable — the Trans-Am mode Virtue, though, holds its poses nice and solid. That said, the yellow part at the front-top of the GN Bazooka still tends to slip down, which remains an issue. On the standard version, the GN Cannon's cannon gimmick also had a habit of sliding down, but thankfully that particular problem seems to be much better on the Trans-Am mode.

All 4 Trans-Am mode kits were released simultaneously, and having them all together in one spot definitely makes for a more impressive display. (The price is the only issue..;) Setting aside personal preferences about the changed color scheme, this kit feels like better value for money than the standard release — it's not just a simple molded color swap, but a proper upgrade using a high-quality pearl material. All in all, I'd say this is a pretty decent variation series that gets a lot of mileage out of relatively little effort. :-)
