Kit Review
Straight build
Straight build
Following the Astraea Type F, the side-story kits keep getting the HG treatment, and this time it's the Gundam Avalanche Exia Dash. The Avalanche Exia was previously released in 1/100, but this HG kit also includes the additional Dash leg parts on top of that.
First off, the Avalanche is known for its flashy color combination, and even at the 1/144 scale, the colors after the straight build come out surprisingly vibrant and well done. That said, the part separation alone isn't enough to fully capture the design colors, so a good amount of seal work is needed — and it does seem to take quite a bit of time. The seals are the typical shiny type, so there's a slight mismatch in finish, but they actually blend in better than expected, so it's not too jarring.
The dash leg parts added to the HG can be rotated forward to give it a skiing-like stance, which makes for some really unique and dynamic action poses. The dash leg parts double as GN Claws, though it's a bit of a shame they're swappable rather than articulated. Feels like they could've easily made them movable..
Since the base Exia itself is already above-average quality, the Gundam Avalanche Exia Dash carries that over with solid articulation and sturdy joints. On top of the vibrant color reproduction, it even comes with a dedicated stand, so it's got quite a presence for an HG kit. Kits loaded with a bunch of add-on parts can sometimes feel unstable, but maybe because of the smaller scale, there's hardly anything to worry about here.
The part count is pretty high, so the ¥2000 price tag makes sense — and honestly, it feels worth every yen. A great kit. :-)
