To wrap up the Bandai Hobby Shop clear limited editions commemorating the 00 movie, we've got the HG Raphael Gundam. With this, the clear color versions of all four main units from the 00 movie are now complete — and since they all dropped at the same time, they definitely give off that "you need to collect the whole set" kind of pressure. ^^;
Among the four main units from the movie, the Raphael Gundam feels like it's a step behind the others in terms of design and overall quality — but it's still a modern-style HG kit that more than gets the job done. Just like the original kit, the center of gravity is heavily top-heavy, which makes balancing it a bit tricky, but the GN Cannon unit on its back actually acts as a support stand, so it's not really a big issue in practice.
Compared to the other units, the body has a noticeably large amount of white, while everything above the upper torso is all dark colors — so as a clear kit, it feels like it loses a bit of its visual impact. Having bright and dark colors spread out in a balanced way is what really brings out that three-dimensional look, and the design's inherently two-tone color scheme does make it feel a little lacking visually.
That said, once you get it off the static standing pose and up on an action stand, it actually looks pretty awesome. I think it helps that it has a lot of bulk for an HG-class kit — the action poses with that big back unit fully deployed have a really impressive sense of power to them.
Either way, this kit is meaningful just for completing the clear color lineup of all four 00 movie main units, and since they all have top-quality modern builds, you can definitely call this an excellent limited edition set. And of course, needless to say — they look even better when all four are displayed together! :-)
