Gundam AGE-1 Normal

Kit Review

Straight build + Panel lining

As the Gundam AGE anime has been getting more and more kits, the AGE-1 Normal has been added to the Mega Size lineup as well. It's the third MS to get the Mega Size treatment after the First Gundam and Zaku — that's quite an honor ^^ (though I'm sure the timing had a lot to do with it..)

The basic concept and quality are pretty much identical to the existing Mega Size First Gundam. The parts are big and chunky like an HG, and while the detail isn't super fine, the overall molding is clean. Articulation is also a straightforward 90-degree range, and thanks to the specially designed Mega Size polycaps, the joint strength is incredibly, incredibly solid.

One thing that's new with the AGE-1 Normal is the included LED light-up unit. You slot it into the back section and can switch it on/off by rotating the external vernier — and that single LED lights up the chest emblem, eyes, and head all at once. Maybe it's because of the large size and all that extra room inside, but the light-up effect is surprisingly impressive, and way more vivid than most PG or MG kits ^^

AGE's design can feel a bit childish and unfamiliar to some, but true to the Mega Size name, it comes out big and bold, giving it a more refined and convincing look than the original design — so even older fans should find it a fun build. I'd love to see more MS get the Mega Size treatment at this level of solid quality :-)
