GM III Beam Master

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the GM III Beam Master, the third release in the Build Divers HG series. It's clearly the third kit, but it came out with release number 2. The second release, the HG 00 Diver, ended up with the awkward number 0, which threw the whole numbering order into a mess. -_-

True to its name, this is a variation based on the existing HGUC GM III, with only about 30% of the parts being new. It also includes some runners from the separately sold Build Custom Changeling Rifle. The Build Custom Changeling Rifle normally supports a total of six configurations, but this kit only includes parts for one of them.

Overall build quality is decent enough — it offers reasonable articulation and joint strength — but with so much stuff hanging off it, it's a bit of a pain to pose. There are parts that get in the way all over the place when you try to move things around. The wrists pop off easily, and the binders on the sides of the legs tend to fall off too. All of that means getting a good pose takes a lot of fiddling, since things don't lock in well and the angles can be tricky to nail down.

The Changeling Rifle can be used on its own, or you can plug it into the front of the Buster Binder mounted on the side skirts. From there, you can detach the whole thing from the side skirt and hold it with both hands. That said, as mentioned above, there are a lot of parts that get in the way and quite a few that pop off easily, so posing is a bit of a hassle no matter how you go about it.

All in all, the differences from the original design aren't huge, and there's a lot left to be desired in terms of how securely the weapons stay attached and how freely you can pose it. Compared to the other kits in the series, this one feels like a pretty average MSV kit that's harder to recommend. :-)
