Uraven Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This is the HG Uraven Gundam released as part of the Build Divers Re:Rise series. The overall setup is similar to the previous Core Gundam-based kits, but this time the base module has been updated to Core Gundam II. And following the series' unique naming convention of combining a planet's order number and name in English, this one takes the 7th planet Uranus and combines it with "Seven" to get the name "Uraven."

The newly updated Core Gundam II shares the same structural features as before with just a design refresh, though it has gotten slightly larger. The large shield on Core Gundam II can be mounted on the back, and you can also fold the body and combine it to form the Core Flyer. As a bonus, you can even combine it with the HG Valkylander's weapons.

The Uraven Gundam's 3 sensor bits can be detached and displayed in a launched formation, though you'll need joint parts since they don't plug directly into standard stands. A total of 5 hands are included, and the extras can be stored in the bottom of the small stand. The method of attaching the Uranus armor pieces to the support mecha to form the Uranus Armor configuration is the same as before.

So while it follows the same format as previous entries with a new planet-themed unit, the base module has been updated and the playability has expanded quite a bit. Like its predecessors, it's a solid quality kit with decent articulation and joint strength, though it's a bit disappointing that the large shield tends to pop off easily when mounted on the back. That said, it's a kit that feels familiar yet fresh, and the real appeal is watching the planet-based lineup gradually come together. :-)
