Wing Gundam Zero Honoo

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

The Build Fighters version of Wing Gundam Zero, the HG Wing Gundam Zero Honoo, has been released. "Honoo" is written with the kanji 炎, meaning "flame," and the kit is decked out in orange clear parts all over its body, like flickering flames.

True to its MSV-style kit nature, it's got a much flashier and more striking look compared to the original kit. About 80% of the parts are new — aside from some of the inner frame — so while it shares a similar style with the original Wing Zero, it's really a completely different design. For weapons, you can detach one of the wings on the back and use it as a sword called the Hyper Karett Wolf, and an upgraded Twin Buster Rifle is also included. The transformation into flight mode works the same way as the original Wing Zero.

Style-wise, it definitely feels fresh compared to the original Wing Zero. The downside is that the more complex design makes this kit a bit tricky to handle. The knee joint structure is harder to get at the right angle, so getting it to stand with a nice silhouette is a real pain. The shield is big, and the shoulders and wings have gotten bigger too, so there's a lot of interference going on. Posing it on a stand isn't too bad, but getting a decent standing pose out of it is seriously tough. -_-

Anyway, it does feel like the overall polish is a slight step behind more recent HG kits, but the style itself is fresh enough that it's still a fun build. Personally, I'm a fan of this kind of reinterpretation design. :-)
