Denial Gundam

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

Following the Build Burning and Try Burning, Denial Gundam — armed with flame effect parts — has joined the HGBF lineup. Despite sharing a similar lineage, it comes with a completely different design from the previous Burning Gundams, and since its official height is close to 20m, it ends up being a slightly larger kit than your typical HG.

First off, the color layout on the body is pretty flashy and complex, but careful color separation keeps the seals to a minimum while pulling it off nicely. In particular, the pearl-infused purple clear parts scattered across the body add some great visual accents to the design. The overall design does feel a little busy, but either way, this is a kit that looks pretty solid even as a straight straight build.

It includes all the effect parts from the Burning Gundam as a base, and on top of that, Denial Gundam's own exclusive effect parts are added — bringing the total to a whopping 4 runners of pearl clear purple. There's no separate rifle or shield, but with this many effect parts, there's plenty of fun to be had trying out all kinds of poses. On top of that, the pearl clear molded color on the effect parts is absolutely gorgeous quality, and just looking at them gives you a real sense of satisfaction.

That said, while the limb articulation itself is excellent — full-bend level — actually trying to pose it feels awkward and uncomfortable. For starters, the feet are severely pigeon-toed and the ankle articulation is practically nonexistent, so the poor ground contact makes it really hard to hold poses on a flat surface. On top of that, the shoulder joints don't use polycaps and are way too stiff, throwing off the balance with the other joints. When you force the stiff shoulders to rotate, other parts tend to pop off unexpectedly — especially the side skirts attached next to the hip joints.

So setting aside raw articulation range, in terms of feel and ease of use, the HG Build Burning / Try Burning Gundam are far more fluid and enjoyable to work with. The Burning Gundam line has that smooth, flowing design, whereas this one is angular all over — and it seems like even the feel of posing has gotten stiff to match.

Anyway, the awkward articulation is definitely a drawback, but considering how flashy it looks straight out of the box and how generous the effect parts are, it's still a kit with its own appeal. If you're a fan of pilot Inose Junya or a regular Gundam Build Fighters Try viewer, this is a kit worth having some fun with — and it looks great displayed on a stand surrounded by all those flashy flame parts. :-)
