HG Mrs. Loheng-Rinko has been released as the Gunpla costume heroine of Build Fighters. She's the fourth character in the lineup after the Fumina series, Chinagguy, and Gyanko — and this time, even the name has a married woman concept going on.
The concept is based on the battleship Archangel from Gundam SEED. The positron cannon mounted on the front of the Archangel is called the Lohengrin, and the name gets twisted into a pun — Roheng-Rinko. Pretty clever wordplay there.
The basic build and overall quality feel are on par with the previous releases. The color separation and articulation are solid, but the overall proportions and facial features feel a bit lacking to really call this a "girlpla" figure. It's noticeably different from Kotobukiya's Frame Arms Girl line, which is their main lineup in this space — this one feels more like just a "female-type character" without much emphasis on aesthetics.
The articulation itself isn't bad, and the joint strength is actually a bit sturdier than the previous releases, but the foot contact with the ground is oddly poor, so you're better off putting her on the included stand rather than trying to get her to stand on her own. The shoulder joints pop out easily but are a pain to put back in — it's a weird structure that'll definitely test your patience during posing.
As for the options, just like the previous releases, two eye types are included — one with a clear part layered over the front and one where the seal is exposed directly — and direction-specific eye seals are also provided. The swappable hand parts being stiff is also the same as before, but on this kit the wrist ball joint is even tighter, making it really hard to pull the hands in and out of the forearm. In my case, I yanked too hard and snapped the left wrist clean off, so in the review photos I had to glue it back together before shooting T_T
On top of that, you can remove the leg armor and swap the feet to get a lower body that looks like she's just wearing black stockings. And through a simple transformation process, you can put her into AA Mode with a silhouette similar to the Archangel battleship. In this mode, the Lohengrin cannons attach to the tips of her feet — and comparing her to the EX Model Archangel, it's actually a pretty decent recreation. (See the comparison photos above.)
To wrap it up — the idea of a girl character that transforms into something resembling a battleship is a fun concept, but the overall quality leaves something to be desired. As mentioned above, there are quite a few annoying issues, and the biggest problem is that she's still just not that pretty compared to the Frame Arms Girl series. That said, if Bandai really put their mind to it they could do so much better — this kit almost feels like they're going easy on Kotobukiya on purpose. :-)
