This kit is the Full Mechanics 1/100 Sword Calamity Gundam, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. Starting from the standard retail release of the Full Mechanics Calamity Gundam, the molded colors have been changed and the Sword Pack along with various weapons have been added. Nearly half the runners are newly sculpted additions.
First off, a variety of weapons have been added for the Sword Calamity — two each of the 15.78m anti-ship sword "Schwert Gewehr," the Midas Messer, the anti-armor combat knife "Armor Schneider," and the rocket anchor "Panzer Eisen." Among these, the anti-ship swords can be combined into one, and a dedicated effect part for that is also included. Two lead wires and a clear display stand are also bundled in for displaying the Panzer Eisen in its launched state.
With a large, elongated anti-ship sword, you might worry about how securely it connects to the hand — but the peg on the handle slots into a groove on the fingers to lock it in place, so it holds steady no matter what pose you put it in. The connection with the other weapons is solid too, and the lead wire for holding the Panzer Eisen in its launched state is nice and sturdy. Overall, everything stays firmly in place no matter the pose, which really adds to the fun of posing.
The body structure itself is the same as the existing Full Mechanics Calamity Gundam, so it still delivers decent articulation and joint strength. The shoulder-popping issue during posing is still there, but as long as you watch out for that, it's not a particularly stressful kit to work with. If anything, the backpack feels more streamlined compared to the original Calamity and Aile Calamity, making it a bit easier to balance and pose. For reference, the wrist parts on the body have been swapped out for new sculpts, and the calf side armor has been redesigned to accommodate the Armor Schneider storage.
With its excellent articulation and impressive arsenal, this kit shows a step up in quality over its predecessors — and it's also significant as the very first Sword Calamity plastic model kit. There was a 1/144 sword parts set as a magazine supplement back in the day, but this is the first time it's come out in a complete, proper form. Either way, this stands as one of the highest-quality kits in the Full Mechanics lineup, and for SEED fans who've been waiting for a Sword Calamity kit, it's nothing short of a blessing. And even if you're seeing this mobile suit for the first time, if the design appeals to you, it's a fantastic 1/100 kit well worth recommending. :-)
