Club G HG

Zaku I (Black Tristar Ver.)

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This is the HG Zaku I (Black Tri-Stars Ver.), released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. The main body reuses the runners straight from the standard retail Origin HG Zaku I, but with the molded colors changed to match the Black Tri-Stars style, and the Bazooka Type A1 added as a newly sculpted piece.

So all the characteristics of the body are identical to the existing HG Origin Zakus, and it still delivers excellent articulation and joint strength. That said, for a so-called Black Tri-Stars unit, the molded color comes out as a deep blue-purple rather than black. It's quite a different look compared to other Black Tri-Stars kits out there, though it does have its own unique charm as a color scheme. On top of that, you can apply the No. 2 (Mash), No. 3 (Gaia), or No. 6 (Ortega) seals selectively to represent all three pilots' units. (Which means you need to buy three, right...?)

The newly sculpted Bazooka Type A1 drops the drum magazine that was on the previous Origin-style bazooka. It's a familiar classic Zaku look, so there's nothing dramatically new about it — but it does set this kit apart from the other HG Origin Zakus.

So aside from the Bazooka Type A1, this is essentially a color variant kit — but it's still a high-quality HG Zaku kit through and through. If you're a fan of the Black Tri-Stars, this one is definitely worth adding to your collection. :-)
