Zeta Gundam [U.C.0088]

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This is the HGUC Zeta Gundam [U.C.0088], released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It represents the late-type Zeta Gundam as upgraded in U.C. 0088 during the ZZ Gundam era, and is based on the HGUC Zeta Gundam [G.E.P] that was renewed and released in 2017. Quite a lot more of the exterior has been changed than you'd expect.

Design-wise, the sculpts and details on the head, chest, front skirt, shoulders, forearms, knees, leg armor, and shield have all been subtly reworked, and the overall size feels slightly smaller — probably to make transformation easier. The standout change on the wings is that the red sections, which used to be handled with seals, are now cleanly done with color separation.

That said, even though so many parts have been given new sculpts, most of the changes are pretty subtle — not quite enough to make it visually distinct from the original kit at a glance. Look closely side by side and you can definitely tell the design has changed, but viewed as a whole it looks almost identical, which is a bit of a shame T_T If anything, the color-separated wings — now free of those messy seals — are the most noticeable improvement.

Beyond that, the joints, transformation process, weapons, and accessory lineup are all the same as the existing G.E.P version, and it still shows off that excellent build quality. It's a variation kit where a lot of effort went into the renewal but the changes somehow don't quite show — which is a little unfortunate — but if you're a Zeta Gundam fan, it's definitely worth picking up :-)
