Club G HGUC

G Parts [Hrududu]

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This is the HGUC G Parts [Hrududu], released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. The MG Hrududu came out first, followed by this HGUC version, and it really feels like a scaled-down copy of the MG. Aside from the size difference, the color separation, claw wing articulation, dual-combine gimmick, and overall functionality are nearly identical to the MG.

If you're looking for differences, some of the gimmicks on the back of the Long Blade Rifle that were movable on the MG have either been omitted or changed to a detach/reattach type on the HGUC. Also, the chest armor locking pin inside the nose sensor unit, which could be stowed away on the MG, is now fixed in place on the HGUC.

A 1/144 Hrududu had actually been released before as a Dengeki Hobby supplement (FG) back in February 2006 — just a single monochrome runner, but it was quite the pricey rare item at the time. Now, even though it's a Club G exclusive, we've got a far superior HGUC version, which makes it much easier for everyone to build the Hazel Ra. (See the comparison review above.)

The process of combining the Hrududu with the HGUC Hazel Kai to create the Hazel Ra is similar to the MG, and it's essentially the same except that swapping the chest armor is a bit simpler. On the other hand, being 1/144 scale means the combined form is much lighter and easier to handle, and unlike the MG, you can display it in the air on a stand or get it standing upright on its own without too much trouble. That said, it's still a good idea to support it from behind with a separate stand for stable positioning and posing.

One thing to note though — the MG Hrududu came with its own action base to support it from the rear, but the simple stand included with the HGUC Hrududu is too small to support the Hazel Ra. So the manual actually tells you to go find a general-purpose stand of the type included with Figure-rise kits and use that instead. It's lighter than the MG so durability isn't a concern, but you'll still want a stand nearby for peace of mind with the HGUC Hazel Ra.

Anyway, if the MG Hazel Ra's appeal is the sheer presence and impact that comes with its size, then the HGUC Hazel Ra's strengths are the same level of sculpt quality in a smaller, lighter package. In terms of detail at least, it's not far behind the MG at all, and if you're thinking about collecting and displaying, the HGUC is honestly less of a commitment than the MG in pretty much every way — price included. :-)
