Gundam TR-1 [Haze'n-thley]

This is the HGUC Gundam TR-1 [Haze'n-thley], released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. The previously released Haze'n-thley II is based on the TR-6 Woundwort, while the Haze'n-thley is based on the TR-1 Hazel. Unlike the grotesquely massive Haze'n-thley II, the Haze'n-thley is a more typical Gundam-type unit, combining parts from the following machines:

1. Hazel Kai — part of the forearms, backpack, lower body/legs, beam rifle/beam saber
2. Advanced Hazel — feet
3. Primrose — core of the upper body
4. Haze'n-thley II — chest armor, shoulders and forearms/beam cannons
5. Hazel II — Booster pod
6. Woundwort — front skirt, Composite Shield

It's a unit that really shows off that AOZ-style Lego-like combination approach. That said, even if you collected all of the kits listed above, actually recreating the Haze'n-thley would be pretty difficult. The upper body of the HGUC Haze'n-thley II looks similar but the parts configuration is slightly different, and the Woundwort upper body used for the front skirt is a completely different size and sculpt. So unless a separate kit with new tooling like this one comes out, there's no way to put together a properly proportioned Haze'n-thley. In the end, only a small number of parts are newly tooled — over 90% are reused from existing kits — but they do come together nicely into a fresh new look.

The lower body follows the form of the Advanced Hazel in test colors, but the thighs and hip joints use newly tooled parts. Thanks to that, the range of motion is significantly wider compared to the old ball joints — you can now spread the legs out wide to the sides and rotate the thighs broadly in a horizontal arc. The front skirt is shaped like the Woundwort's upper body folded over, but compared to an actual Woundwort, it's a compact, fixed-form part.

The Composite Shield looks similar to the one from the HGUC Woundwort on the outside, but the internal frame mechanism has been changed and the front blade is slightly longer. At the same time, a smaller part representing the blade in its stored configuration has been added. Also, unlike the old method of gripping the handle with a small hand, the shield now attaches to the forearm via a dedicated mounting part, giving it a much more secure fit. Overall articulation and joint strength are solid, standard HG quality — and compared to the Haze'n-thley II, which was a handful to handle due to its sheer size, this one is a much more manageable kit.

Anyway, since this is a unit you simply can't build properly by combining existing kits, it's great to see it released as a standalone kit. With the new tooling you can build a more complete Haze'n-thley, and the improved hip joint parts add real value — so this feels like a variation kit that's well worth it. :-)
