Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Owsla] Gigantic Arm Unit

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HG Gundam TR-1 [Hazel Owsla] Gigantic Arm Unit, released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's one of the ultimate entries in the AOZ Lego series, and as always, it's a kit that mixes runners from multiple kits together — though the Gigantic Arm parts have been added as all-new sculpts.

First, the Hazel Owsla main body is a combination of the HGUC Hazel + Advanced Hazel + Primrose. To accommodate the Gigantic Arm, runners from the HGUC Hrududu + Hrududu II are also included. And the Gigantic Arm itself doesn't reuse any arm parts from the HGUC Psycho Gundam — it's 100% newly sculpted. It's not just a color swap; the joint structure, outer armor, and details have been completely upgraded. The color separation has also been enhanced to match the AOZ design specs, and most notably, the elbow and hand articulation are significantly improved. The fingers in particular come with all three joints individually articulated.

The main body is completely identical to the Hazel Owsla you'd build by collecting the existing HGUC AOZ kits — same molded colors, same parts. Since the HGUC Hazel's lower body wasn't all that sturdy to begin with, loading it up with all this extra weaponry does make it a tough situation to hold up. That said, the included simple stand can be plugged in at the back, which is a thoughtful touch that allows for stable upright display. However, since the lower body is still on the weaker side, if you don't position the legs carefully, the standing pose can collapse pretty quickly.

The massive Gigantic Arm delivers excellent articulation and solid joint strength, holding its position well at any angle. The Hrududu center section added for the Gigantic Arm has been newly sculpted. As you can see in the comparison photos above, the original HGUC Hrududu center section has connecting pins on both sides that move up and down. When you use that with the HGUC Psycho Gundam arms to replicate the Gigantic Arm, the weight causes it to droop down like crazy (-_-). (See the HGUC Primrose Gigantic Arms review for reference.) To fix this issue, newly sculpted parts with fixed pins on both sides have been used, so the arm no longer droops down at all ^^

This kit delivers plenty of impressive presence as the ultimate AOZ kit, and the massive Gigantic Arm makes posing a lot of fun. The Gigantic Arm joints in particular are very solid, holding whatever angle you put them in. That said, if you display it airborne on a separate action base, the joint connecting to the stand can be a bit iffy and may suddenly drop, so some caution is needed there. As long as you don't touch it after getting it airborne it should hold, but leaving it for extended periods could risk damaging the joint parts.

There is one oddly frustrating issue — the hand dorsal cover for the Long Blade Rifle hand. The manual instructs you to separately borrow the hand dorsal cover part from the HGUC Hazel, but it actually doesn't fit the hand dorsal cover parts included in this kit, so you can't attach it. I was grumbling about how they couldn't just throw in one measly hand dorsal cover part, but on closer inspection, there's an identical hand dorsal cover among the leftover parts from the HGUC Primrose runner (-_-). So you don't actually need to borrow it from the HGUC Hazel at all — looks like the Bandai developers just forgot about it when writing the manual...

All in all, this kit delivers more than enough impressive presence to earn its place as the ultimate AOZ kit. There are a few minor gripes, but they're easily forgiven thanks to the perfectly upgraded, all-new Gigantic Arm parts. Either way, if you're an AOZ fan, this is definitely a kit you won't want to miss :-)
