Gyplant TR-5 [Hrairoo] (Titans Color)

Kit Review

Straight build + Stickers

This kit is the HGUC Gaplant TR-5 [Hrairoo] (Titans Color), released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. Starting from the HGUC Gaplantreleased in 2003, the molded colors have been changed to Titans colors with some new sculpts applied. Aside from the changed head, it does look like a simple color variant at first glance.

First off, a new Gundam-type head has been applied as a new sculpt, and the shoulder armor has also been redone with a new sculpt — giving the verniers color separation and eliminating the seam lines. A set of closed fists with no holes has been added, and the crotch part has been swapped out for one with a stand hole. The joint runners have also been changed from ABS to KPS, improving the feel of the articulation and making it easier to paint. A black simple stand is included as well, so you can use the crotch stand hole for aerial display poses.

Everything else carries over from the original HGUC Gaplant. Being a kit from 21 years ago, it does show its age. The hip joints are old-school ball joints, the shoulder joints feel a bit fragile for the design, and the limb joints can't even bend 90 degrees. That said, joint strength elsewhere (aside from the shoulders) is decent enough, so standing poses and held poses aren't too bad. The transformation into Mobile Armor mode works the same as before, though the new stand hole in the crotch now makes aerial display possible. The large Booster that came with the HGUC Gaplant has been removed.

So while this is a variation kit that applies some new sculpts and stays faithful to the design, you should definitely go in knowing that the base kit is an older one. That said, the overall proportions were well done and hold up nicely, so if you like the silhouette, this is still a kit worth enjoying :-)
