Club G MG

Ballute Pack

Kit Review

Straight build

This kit is the MG Ballute Pack released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's a standalone release of the Ballute Pack that was previously included in the standard retail MG Hyaku-Shiki + Ballute System, with newly tooled joint parts added so it can be attached to kits other than the Hyaku-Shiki.

First, for the MG Hyaku-Shiki joint parts — only the leg parts are newly tooled; the rest are the same as what came in the MG Hyaku-Shiki + Ballute System. These parts are only compatible with the MG Hyaku-Shiki v1.0 and won't fit the v2.0. (The MG Hyaku-Shiki v2.0 already comes with its own Ballute Pack joint parts.) Also, the MG Hyaku-Shiki + Ballute System included longer connector parts for the binders on either side of the backpack, but those aren't provided in this kit. So when attaching to the MG Hyaku-Shiki v1.0, the gap between the binders is too narrow and it's not easy to position the Ballute Pack nicely. T_T If they were going to include Hyaku-Shiki parts anyway, it would've been great if they'd thrown in those binder extension parts too.

As for the MG Rick-Dias, Hi-Zack, and Nemo — they all get 100% newly tooled joint parts and the Ballute Pack can be attached without too much trouble. That said, the Rick-Dias is such a chunky unit that the fit between the Ballute Pack and the back is pretty tight, making attachment a bit tricky. The Nemo, on the other hand, is too slim so there's extra gap — you really need to keep it pressed firmly against the backpack and chest to stop it from sagging down. And with the Hi-Zack, while it attaches fine, the lower body joint strength is pretty poor so it has trouble standing upright.

Finally, for the MG Marasai — no separate joint parts are provided in this kit, since the MG Marasai already comes with its own Ballute Pack joint parts that you can borrow and use. The MG Marasai also includes a dedicated stand joint part for the Ballute Pack, and the instructions guide you to borrow that as well. It's clearly a very useful item, but it would've been nicer if this kit had included those parts so you wouldn't have to borrow them in the first place.

It's great that they added new joint parts to let you attach the Ballute Pack to the Rick-Dias, Hi-Zack, and Nemo in addition to the existing Hyaku-Shiki and Marasai — but as you can see, there are a few things to watch out for and some limitations depending on the unit, so make sure to check the review carefully. Either way, this kit has the appeal of letting you equip multiple units with the Ballute Pack at a pretty reasonable price, so it's not a bad option kit for fans of the Zeta Gundam series. :-)
