Club G MG

Gundam TR-1 [Advanced Hazel]

Kit Review

Straight build + stickers/wet decals

This kit is the MG Gundam TR-1 [Advanced Hazel], released as a Club G (Premium Bandai) online exclusive. It's essentially based on the previously released Hazel Kai Combat Deployment Color with new parts added. For the Advanced configuration, a new head, sole/heel parts, and a front skirt with a built-in sub-arm have been added, along with an extra copy of the existing shield Booster.

So the main body is identical to the existing MG Hazel Kai in every way — frame, gimmicks, articulation, all of it — and for this review you'll mainly want to pay attention to the characteristics of the newly added parts. The new head has a gimmick where you open the lower cover to expose the mono-eye, but the gap is narrow so it's hard to see. The poseable sub-arm on the new skirt holds its deployed position well thanks to solid joint strength, but the claw at the very end is small, so the grip on weapons is a little shaky. That said, if you're careful, you can get it to hold a beam saber or beam rifle in a convincing way, just like in the official specs. Beyond that, the high-heel parts can be attached and removed with a simple swap, and the backpack's design has been changed to accommodate two shield Boosters.

Visually, the high-heels and dual shield Boosters give the kit a noticeably taller silhouette. The molded colors are about 95% identical to the Hazel Kai Combat Deployment Color — look closely and you'll notice the neck and shoulder areas are slightly different. And while you might think you could recreate a standard Hazel Kai Combat Deployment Color look by removing the Advanced equipment, that's actually not possible since the normal Hazel's head antenna are missing. That said, the normal backpack parts do remain as leftover parts, so you can actually build the Hazel Ra Second form using just this kit alone down the line. (Check the MG Hrududu Combat Deployment Color review for more details on that.)

Anyway, the main body still shows off rock-solid joint strength, and thanks to the rugged color scheme and beefed-up armament, it definitely feels like a step up from the standard Hazel — a big, imposing kit. If you're an MG Hazel fan, this is one you really shouldn't miss. :-)
